| How Robinsong applied Rosgen's
Natural Channel Design Techniques to help shape
a community's future |
|
|
In 2000, the Madison County Executive
Airport Authority faced a problem that threatened
its growth. The FAA-mandated Runway Safety Area
was encumbered by a gravel mine which had operated
through most of the last century. The mine’s
gravel pits, at the north end of the new runway,
could not be filled because the Brier Fork of the
Flint River had been diverted to run through the
mining area.
The airport authority and the civil engineering
firm of G. W. Jones & Sons (whose firm provided
project management) called upon Robinsong for its
wetland and stream restoration experience. In the
end, this partnership would create a solution in
which Robinsong’s knowledge of Rosgen’s
Natural Channel Design Techniques would play a key
role. |
